Saint James Presbyterian Church was founded by 20 to 30 individuals who left enslavement to establish a church where they could worship freely, grow in faith, and build a thriving community rooted in education, justice, and mutual care. From the beginning, Saint James has been more than a congregation—it has been a catalyst for spiritual, social, and cultural transformation in the Black community of Greensboro.

More than 150 years later, that legacy continues. We are a progressive Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation committed to vibrant worship, intergenerational ministry, and community transformation through faith in action. We strive to be a spiritually healthy, biblically grounded, and missional church that nurtures leaders, dismantles systemic racism, and empowers the marginalized.
