Saint James is a Christ-centered, missional church committed to being relevant, spiritually healthy, inclusive, and intergenerational. Through vibrant worship, faithful service, and ministries that respond to the real needs of our community, we seek to glorify God and transform lives.
We strive to be a spiritually healthy, just, radically inclusive community of faith—one that dismantles systemic racism, nurtures emerging leaders, and empowers the marginalized. As a Matthew 25 and Stephen Ministry congregation, we take seriously the call to serve with compassion and walk alongside those facing challenges. We are also a trauma-informed, justice-oriented space where healing is possible and where all are invited to belong, question, and grow.

Where are the services held?
Our Sunday worship service begins at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary at 820 Ross Avenue, on the southeast side of Greensboro near Florida and Bennett Streets.

What kind of church is this?
Saint James is a part of the Presbyterian Church (USA)—a denomination with congregations nationwide. Learn more at www.pcusa.org.
We are proud of our heritage as a historically Black congregation that has long been committed to education, advocacy, and addressing the issues of the day. Our roots go back to the founding of the first formal educational institution for African Americans in Greensboro—and today, that legacy continues through our ministries in education, health equity, food justice, and civic engagement.
While people from all over the Triad region join us, we remain deeply committed to our local neighbors and the well-being of our community.
What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable. Some wear jeans, some wear suits—you’ll see both and everything in between. Come as you are.
Will I have to say anything or be singled out?
Nope. We won’t put you on the spot. You’ll be warmly welcomed but never pressured. If you’re visiting for the first time, we have a small welcome bag as our way of saying we’re glad you’re here. No sign-ups or introductions required—just come and experience worship with us.
We do receive an offering during worship, but your presence is the greatest gift.
More Than Worship
From small groups to service opportunities, there’s a place for you here.
We offer:
- Small groups and Bible studies for adults
- Faith Point Fellowship for young adults and college students
- Youth and children’s ministries for ages 4–18
- Wellness Wednesday gatherings that nurture spiritual and physical health
- Service and justice opportunities in partnership with local schools, nonprofits, and faith organizations
We also host Discipleship Classes for those who are considering membership or simply want to learn more. These informal sessions are the first step in our New Members’ process and provide a space to ask questions, get to know our leadership, and explore what it means to be part of this church family.
